What is the Vestibular System?

Our team of qualified vestibular physiotherapists are here to help answer any of your questions and guide you toward recovery.

This system has several functions:

To give the perception of the head in space;

To give the muscles the information they need to counteract the force of gravity;

To maintain a clear image on the eye (visual stability to see clearly) when the head makes sudden and rapid movements

To perform this job, the vestibular system interacts intimately with the nervous system as well as our eyes.

We have 2 vestibular systems: left and right. Each of the vestibular systems is made up of multiple structures, including the semicircular canals (SC). We have 3 SC channels per ear: anterior, posterior and horizontal.
