WHAT IS IT?
Overactive bladder is a term applied when you empty your bladder more than is considered “normal,” it is also known as pollakiuria. Ideally, you should be emptying your bladder 5-9 times per day. If you are below the age of 50 and in good health, you should be able to sleep through the night without waking up to urinate. Around and after menopause, the changes in hormones can lead to increased urine output overnight, and one trip to the bathroom can be normal. All things considered, if you drink herbal teas or alcohol just before bed, you might have to get up to urinate which can be expected no matter what age group you fall into.
WHAT CAUSES IT?
There are many factors that can lead to increased urine frequency, and they do not have to be independent of one another:
- You urinate often ‘just in case,’ training your bladder to only be able to tolerate smaller volumes of urine.
- The inner lining of your bladder becomes irritated:

3. Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction
