What is a suction massage/cupping?

It is the one of humanity’s oldest forms of global treatment. It has been practiced since 1500 BC by the Egyptians, Asians and natives using various objects such as bones, wood, and nut. Cupping involves the application of a small container (as illustrated below) on the skin:

The massage therapist will move those special cups as they stay in contact with the skin. There are many different suction techniques. We offer stationary with or without mobilisations/movements/stretching, as well as dynamic cupping

How does cupping massage works?

Due to the negative pressure created by the suction, the cupping massage relaxes stiff tissues, drains excess fluids and toxins, loosens adhesions, loosen connective tissues and restores blood circulation in the treated area.

A light application of oil will allow your therapist to twist and move the cups on necessary regions.

What are the benefits of the cupping?

By stimulating blood circulation, cupping therapy oxygenates the treated area and promotes the healing process. Indeed, it helps to unblock the energy flow and generates increased vitality.

What types of medical problems the cupping can treat?

  • Asthma and other respiratory problems
  • Digestive problems
  • Constipation
  • High blood pressure
  •  Diabetes
  • Sciatic nerve problems
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Oedema
  • Osteoporosis
  • Sprain
  • Sport injuries
  • Cellulitis
  • Muscle tensions and pain
  • Migraines and headache
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Rheumatism, arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Menstrual problems
  • Muscle ache
  • Heavy legs syndrome

What happens during a cupping session?

During the first session, in our Verdun clinic, the therapist will first evaluate your condition and your specific needs. Your therapist will then develop your treatment plan. If the therapist considers it appropriate to use the cupping for your problem/issue, she will ask you to sign the consent form for the cupping.

After you have agreed with the treatment plan, you will have to undress (keeping your underwear on) and lie down on the treatment table under warn blankets. During the massage, only the treated area will be uncovered. Before using the suction cups, the therapist will apply oil with their hands and massage the area to allow better adherence of the suctioning cups. During the session, you might have a sensation of warmth in the treated area. At the end of the session, it is quite normal to have a red mark from the suction cups in the treated area for a few days. Before each cupping massage session, the suction cups are disenfected.
